CityPlace Fountain Goes Eco-Friendly with Support of
Rebekah’s Dreams Entertainment & Production Services
West Palm Beach, FL, May 27, 2008 – Rebekah’s Dreams Entertainment &
Productions Services has been contracted by CityPlace, located at 700
South Rosemary Avenue in West Palm Beach, FL, to design and program a
new lighting system and coordinate with the electrical contractor to integrate
it with the existing fountain control system.
CityPlace was opened in October of 2000 as a high end shopping area and
tourist destination. The fountain located in CityPlace Plaza serves as
CityPlace’s central attraction. The fountain has dazzled guests since
its opening with its choreographed performances every half-hour.
CityPlace staff approached Rebekah’s Dreams to service the current dimming system. The operational issues with the fountain were extensive. The dimmers were not working properly causing an increase in the need for lamp changes. It was discovered that the two dimmer racks, which were located in the fountain’s pump room, had been subjected to years of damp, chlorinated air conditions and this had led to serious operational issues. CityPlace had previously replaced the racks a few years earlier due to a costly flood that occurred in the pump room.
The original system included two ETC Sensor® Dimmer Racks that were powered with 600 amps of three-phase power. The dimmers were connected to 194 Hydrel lighting fixtures between 300 and 1000 Watts. When approached to once again replace the Sensor® Dimmer Racks, the staff at Rebekah’s Dreams suggested an alternative: Color Kinetics underwater LED lighting.
The new system would include 194 Color Kinetics C-Splash 2 underwater LED fixtures and 32 Color Kinetics PDS-150e power supplies as well as an iPlayer® 3 with ColorPlay® 3 software. The power supplies, which replace the 600 amps worth of dimming, will be powered by only eight 20AMP circuits.
Within three years of implementation of the Color Kinetics LED fixtures, CityPlace is projected to save as much as 7 times its current yearly costs in maintenance and consume one-tenth the power. And, there’s an additional bonus: the new fixtures can be programmed to produce any color of light desired thus bringing a new dimension to the fountain’s shows.
In weighing the cost of replacing the two dimmer racks (based on the current lifespan and the current environment), the cost of the frequent lamp changes (including labor), and the power consumption costs, CityPlace’s decision became easy.
Rebekah’s Dreams Entertainment & Production Services will be programming the new LED fixtures into the existing shows.
